This qualification reflects the role of support workers who complete specialised tasks and functions in aged services; either in residential, home or community-based environments. Workers will take responsibility for their own outputs within defined organisation guidelines and maintain quality service delivery through the development, facilitation and review of individualised service planning and delivery.

Workers may be required to demonstrate leadership and have limited responsibility for the organisation and the quantity and quality of outputs of others within limited parameters.

This qualification will be delivered over 56 weeks, including 44 weeks of training and assessment spread over 4 terms of 10 weeks each and 12 weeks of holidays.
The student is required to undertake a minimum of 200 hours of work placement experience in a relevant aged care setting in the community services industry. AGC has prescribed an extra 80 hours work placement over the 120 hours set as the minimum in the training package to enable the international student longer exposure to the workplace for skill development, reflection and practice. This is especially important for students whose first language in not English and working with older people.
